Do you want to understand the challenges and opportunities of worldwide settlements in relation to current rapid changes, the Master of Human Settlements (MaHS) is just what you are looking for. This intensive program seeks to expose the multi-faceted challenge of contemporary human settlements from multi-disciplinary and multi-scalar perspectives, and encourages students to develop a critical and interpretative approach towards developing their own position within the field.
The MaHS addresses rapid urbanisation in the developing world and contemporary urban transformations with architecture, urbanism, landscape architecture and spatial planning as its core disciplines. Contributions from fields such as economics, geography and anthropology complement the core disciplines in order to better understand the interplay between human and natural ecosystems. The programme is thriving, thanks to its truly international body of students and the faculty’s long-standing research expertise in worldwide contexts.
The development of MaHS as an ICP Connect programme is supported by partners around the world, in countries such as Kenya, South Africa, Mozambique, Palestine, Vietnam and Ecuador. Every year, co-production with partners reinforces the unique, distinctive traits of the MaHS: an integrated approach to urban development that is best reflected in the design studio where real-world problems are tackled. These intensive shared design experiences are organised with ICP partners to balance fundamental and applied knowledge within a research-based approach.
