The project aims to isolate Streptococcus pneumoniae from healthy children and clinical samples of children and HIV+ and HIV- patients and determine serotype distribution, genotype distribution, population structure, transmission dynamics and antibiotic resistance pattern among the isolates. In addition, it aims to describe the prevalence of nontypeable Streptococcus pneumoniae.
