Damage assessment tools for Structural Health Monitoring of Vietnamese infrastructures

Ongoing

The Vietnamese civil infrastructures, such as bridges and dams, may suffer from damage due to service loads, environmental and accidental actions, and natural hazards. Recent reports on structural collapse of infrastructures in Vietnam, which caused many causalities, indicate the importance of health monitoring of such structures. Unfortunately, there is no sufficient funding allocated for the management and condition monitoring of the existing infrastructures in Vietnam. A recent successfully completed South Initiatives (2014) project has considered experimental vibration measurements on Vietnamese bridges and dams for the purpose of damage assessment. This TEAM proposal is a continuation of the completed South Initiatives project and will investigate the use of advanced numerical damage assessment techniques to develop tools to evaluate and monitor the health of these infrastructures. We shall develop novel damage assessment tools that make use of the already measured experimental data to detect and localize damages. These tools will be generic and can be applied to any Vietnamese infrastructure.
