Evidence Based Inclusive Education for Children with Disabilities in Wakiso district, Uganda

This two year project aims to a) build research capacity of the staff and students of Kyambogo University, Faculty of Special Needs and Rehabilitation, and b) improve rehabilitation and inclusive education for children with disabilities in primary schools in Wakiso district in Uganda. The project offers a community based innovative, culturally appropriate, low-cost intervention, and is a collaboration between the academic institutions Kyambogo University, Medical Research Council / Uganda Virus Research Institute, Ghent University, and community based rehabilitation service providers Comprehensive Rehabilitation Services Uganda, Katalemwa Cheshire Home, and family support groups. It was developped together with the Ministry of Education and District Education Office. The multidisciplinary project team consists of researchers, teachers, neuropaediatricians, orthopaedic technologists, phyio and occupational therapists, educational and clinical psychologists, and families of children with disabilities. All have over 10 years working experience with children with disabilities in Uganda.
