Cerebral palsy in Suriname

Ongoing

The project ‘Cerebral Palsy in Suriname’ aims to improve the management of children with Cerebral Palsy (CP) in Suriname by developing and implementing a multidisciplinary structure that includes several clinical specialists and physical therapists. Within the Faculty of Medical Sciences at the Anton de Kom University of Suriname, the multi-disciplinary approach will be incorporated in the educational system of the medical and physical therapy school. Furthermore, this project will ensure the Training and Research Centre (TRC) at the Faculty of Medical Sciences of the Anton de Kom University in Suriname to assess specific functions and activities of children with CP. This multi-functional laboratory will help strengthen education and research capacity at the Faculty of Medical Sciences. In order to improve the management of children with CP, general awareness of CP is needed; since this is lacking among health care workers and the general community in Suriname.
