Summer School for Strengthening Diagnostic and Stewardship capacity for Teaching Hospitals in global South (DSTHS)

Notice: Undefined index: Cancelled in /data/sites/web/vliruosbe/www/views/project.php on line 48

ITP did not happen on the dates mentioned, it is postponed to a later (yet to be determined) date in 2021 or 2022.

The application for an International training programme (ITP) is a result of the initial collaboration between the European laboratory network for clinical trials on anti-infectives (LAB-Net) and 3 EDCTP supported networks in Africa (PediCAP, PANDORA and ALERRT) which focus on emerging infections diseases in both adults and children, as well as preparedness to tackle epidemics. Hospitals and laboratories from different African countries will be approached with a questionnaire and 2 participants from each site (microbiologist and infectious disease specialist) selected to participate in a summer school in 2020. Participants will be taught how to detect multidrug-resistant organisms by various methods, as well as on basic techniques for infection control, rational antibiotic use and data collection. The course will aim to build capacity and endorse the formation of local antimicrobial stewardship teams.

This collaboration between LAB-Net and PediCAP, PANDORA and ALERRT has the potential to become sustainable in the near future and lay the ground foundations of a global alliance for clinical trials in infectious diseases together with other networks around the world.
