Our Commitment to Sustainable Development

In 2020, VLIRUOS began developing its five-year programme (2022-2026), with the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development as its guiding framework. This new programme takes a more ambitious approach, embedding the three core SDG principles into all our goals, policies, and partnerships.

Higher education and science institutions (HE&SIs) play a critical role in achieving the SDGs through research, education, and knowledge mobilisation. VLIRUOS partners with HE&SIs to foster systemic change for sustainable development, enabling collaborative, global solutions that transcend the traditional North/South divide. Our focus is on building equal partnerships, awarding scholarships, and enhancing organisational performance, all while promoting sustainable development as a core dimension of internationalisation in Flemish HEIs.

Through our current five-year programme, we emphasise multi-stakeholder partnerships and collective learning to address complex global challenges. Our goal is to make both VLIRUOS and our partnerships "SDG proof," ensuring long-lasting societal impact through education, research, and service.
