Through cultural education, Afrika Film Festival seeks to strengthen social cohesion and challenge stereotypes about Africa. To support this, discussions are organised before and/or after the film screenings. In this way, audiences are not only informed but also encouraged to reflect critically and to engage.
The festival objectives are fourfold. Firstly, it aims to provide a platform for talented young people of African descent by offering them opportunities to showcase their work in a professional context. Secondly, it promotes diversity and inclusion by bringing forward underrepresented perspectives and quieter voices. Thirdly, the festival strives to break down stereotypes by introducing the widest possible audience to stories and creations with an African touch. Finally, Afrika Film Festival is a space where role models within the Afro-Belgian community can thrive and inspire.
Time and space are created for visitors to interact and contribute to community building. The stories presented not only invite reflection but also offer moments of beauty and respite.
KU Leuven and UCLL are partners of the festival.
