TechnoRehabLab²: Transforming Osteoarthritis Care with Technology in Burundi
The WHO recognizes rehabilitation as a top priority for managing chronic conditions, with 2.4 billion people needing access to these services. However, only a small fraction of patients, particularly in low-income countries, receive rehabilitation due to limited infrastructure and healthcare professionals.
We developed a center in Bujumbura, Burundi, where patients suffering from osteoarthritis—a highly prevalent and disabling condition—can access affordable rehabilitation services through technology.
This presentation will showcase how technology can assist clinicians in expanding rehabilitation services in areas facing severe shortages of healthcare professionals, ultimately improving patients' function, autonomy, and quality of life.
