Grandmothers is a work-in-progress performance that we will continue to develop and explore during our time in Dar es Salaam. It reflects on our relationship with our grandmothers and ancestors, and on the cultural values they have passed down to us. Values that live on in the traditions, stories, experiences and memories we carry with us.
Our grandmothers are a mirror reflecting who we are. Or are we a mirror reflecting who they were? What values emerge with each new generation, and what wisdom and knowledge might be lost along the way?
Tanzania is the cradle of humanity. It is from this birthplace that humankind began to find its place in the world. It is our shared ancestral mother, the source from which all cultures emerged.
The performance grew out of a VLIRUOS Short Initiative in 2025, a collaboration between USDM and RITCS.
