The Power to Connect
Premiere of the documentary The Power to Connect, followed by panel discussions and a reception.
Aula Pieter De Somer, Charles Deberiotstraat 24, 3000 Leuven
A story on Belgium and Senegal connecting through students and technology.
This documentary follows a team of Belgian and Senegalese students (KU Leuven and UCAD Dakar) throughout their entire journey at Ferme Moringa in Mbodiène, Senegal; an educational agroecological farm that provides vulnerable families and young people with training in sustainable agriculture.
Together, the students designed and installed a solar power system, an electrical distribution network and a water pumping system. As part of the project, the Senegalese students travelled to Belgium to work on the design phase, after which the Belgian students travelled to Senegal to implement the project on site.
The documentary is about more than a technically challenging project. It highlights the collaboration between students in Belgium and Senegal, as well as the personal experiences and intercultural exchange that such a journey entails.
The screening will be followed by two panel discussions: the first featuring the students themselves, reflecting on the documentary and their experiences, and the second bringing together organisations and universities from the sector to explore the broader role of young people in international solidarity.
