Enhancing Road Safety among Adolescent (Motor)cyclists in Vietnam

This Community Talk explores how safety, risk, and everyday mobility are negotiated in motorcycle-dependent cities and mixed-traffic systems, with particular attention given to adaptive safety-seeking behaviour.

Through video elicitation, naturalistic observation, and behavioural theory building, context-sensitive explanations of road-user behaviour are developed, moving beyond assumptions derived primarily from high-income settings. Broader connections are made between road safety, sustainable urban mobility, smart-city governance, and inclusive urban development.

Grounded in Vietnam and connected to wider emerging-city contexts, comparative knowledge is developed to inform safer transport systems and locally responsive mobility policies across the Global South.

Speaker: Nguyen Hoai Pham (UHasselt)
