The Twin Transition in Higher Edcuation in Cuba
Energy transition starts with the expansion of sustainable energy production. But it cannot move forward without reliable energy data management.
In this project, Cuban and European experts take on both ends at the same time. As they implement new solar energy systems on five university campuses in Cuba, they also design and build the dataloggers, the databases, the server capacity that allows them to manage the transition as an integrated process.
In that way, they do not simply improve the energy resilience of the higher education system. They also model new training formats in sustainable energy management, involve private sector partners, scale up their systems at regional and national level, enhancing energy sovereignty (and free internet access) for all.
This project is a collaboration between VLIRUOS, four European universities (Howest, Ghent University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, and Hanze Hogeschool), five Cuban universities (University of Havana, Universidad de Cienfuegos, Central University of Las Villas, Universidad de Camagüey, University of de Sancti Spiritus), a European cooperation network (Obreal), and the Cuban Ministry of Higher Education.
