Showcasing Global Impact at the 14th S-DHG Forum in Brussels
On November 12 & 13, 2024, VLIRUOS participated in the 14th Stakeholder Forum on Sustainable Development Goals in Higher Education and Research (S-DHG Forum), held in Brussels.
Organised by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in collaboration with the European Commission and the Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU), this year’s forum focused on “Building Alliances for Development in Higher Education and Research.”
Organising a Dynamic Poster Session
As part of our commitment to fostering global partnerships, VLIRUOS was responsible for organising a poster session, where participating organisations showcased their key facts and figures. This interactive platform provided an excellent opportunity to highlight the collective impact of higher education and research on sustainable development, fostering dialogue and collaboration between diverse stakeholders.
Key Themes and Discussions
The forum brought together policymakers, academics, and development practitioners to discuss a range of important topics, including:
- The EU’s Global Gateway strategy, aimed at investing in sustainable global infrastructure.
- The role of higher education in addressing emergencies, with a focus on providing academic support to countries like Ukraine.
- Building stronger alliances for development through higher education and research.
By facilitating these conversations, the event underscored the vital role of education and research in tackling global challenges and advancing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Strengthening Global Alliances
Participation in the S-DHG Forum aligns with the VLIRUOS mission to connect, support, and inspire partnerships between Flemish higher education institutions and their global counterparts. Events like these reinforce the importance of collective efforts in achieving impactful outcomes in sustainable development.
