About the partnership
After more than a decade of VLIR-UOS cooperation in Ecuador, the VLIR-UOS country strategy identified deepening of Ecuadorian university cooperation through national networks around strategic themes as a priority in order to extend its impact in the country. Because the rich biodiversity and water resources in Ecuador are under siege by human intervention and consequently seriously endangered due to the lack of valorisation, 'bio-discovery' and 'water resource management' were selected has central themes for the elaboration of this network programme.
In this VLIR-UOS network programme, several Ecuadorean institutes of higher education (Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, Universidad de Cuenca, Universidad Técnica del Norte and Escuela Politécnica Nacional) work together in order to contribute to the sustainable management of Ecuador's natural resources by strengthening advanced human talent in the areas of biodiversity (project 1) and water resource management (project 2). In the first phase of these projects, two joint master's degree programs will be established with international standards aiming at the international accreditation.
