Platform Governance Uganda Phase I

The proposed Governance Platform has the following overall academic and developmental objectives (see also Logframe Annex 1): Overall Academic Objective: • The knowledge base and scientific capacity of the Ugandan academic community to conduct high-standard and policy-relevant research on governance and public policy issues is enhanced. Overall Developmental Objective: • The Ugandan academic community has contributed to the improvement of the quality and effectiveness of public policy and governance in Uganda. Following internal discussions with the prospective members of the proposed Governance Platform (i.e. Uganda Christian University, Makerere University, Mountains of the Moon, Kyambogo University, Busitema University, Mbarara University of Science and Technology, Uganda Martyrs University, Gulu University), the following three research themes were selected as priority areas of research for the Governance Platform: 1) The management of natural resources, 2) Post-conflict recovery, and 3) Social service delivery. There was a consensus among the prospective platform members that these were the most pressing and important areas of research for Uganda’s foreseeable future.
