KivUpsIT: Kivu region is Upskilling Information Technology through networking

Ongoing

This project aims to solve two important development problems in the Kivu region: (1) a high rate of youth unemployment in the IT sector and (2) a series of problems related to Higher Education in DRCongo . These are (a) the lack of in-service training of the academic staff, (b) the low quality of informatics courses. This project includes: (1) strengthening the skills of the academic staff of two institutions: the Université Catholique de Bukvavu and the Institut Supérieur d’Informatique et de Gestion of Goma; (2) the creation of 'KivUpsIT', an inter-institutional network that will ensure an exchange of views on the integration of practical and 21st century skills into the informatics curriculum; (3) the establishment of a structural exchange framework between UCB, ISIG, civil society and the private sector; (4) improving the quality of student internships and theses; (5) a hackathon (the culmination of the project) that will integrate all the acquired skills and spark the entrepreneurial spirit.
