Co-creating new knowledge through joint learning on life systems for adapting territorial development plans - Wakichina

Ongoing

Sustainable development in Bolivia has been linked to the integrated management of territorial planning. This concept promotes efficient use and combined management of ‘life systems’ as a pre-condition for optimal socio-economic and cultural development, while reducing negative anthropogenic and climate change impacts on the environment (e.g. soil degradation, biodiversity loss, flooding, etc.)  In the effort to respond to these requirements, this project aims at bridging academic knowledge, with indigenous and peasants’ knowledge, and policy makers. Stakeholders from outside academia need to be involved to integrate their knowledge and to account for their diverse perspectives and interests in the variety of issues of ‘life systems’ management. To this end the project aims at (1) initiating the process of transdisciplinary research for the sustainable management of ‘life systems’, (2) fostering teaching and research capacities in this domain, (3) facilitating joint learning among academic and non-academic actors, and (4) establishing formalized long-term links between researchers and networks of local actors.
