Evidence-based Practice as tool to bridge the gap between the academic and clinical field

Ongoing

Evidence Based Practice (EBP) is an established method to improve healthcare quality. However, in Ecuador, healthcare (HC) professionals have limited knowledge and skills to apply EBP in clinical practice. In addition, implementation of relevant research results into the clinical field is troubled by a limited knowledge of the university professors. This project strives to improve the overall EBP competences (knowledge, application, and implementation) in both the clinical and the academic field. Ten professors of the FCSALUD of Universidad Tecnica del Norte (UTN) and 10 HC professionals will follow an online blended course on implementation science and set up and implement 4 EBP improvement projects in collaboration with students and the clinical field. In parallel, 40 HC professionals and 40 UTN students run through a sustainable online e-learning module on application of EBP and will elaborate EBP clinical cases. This project will enforce the relationship between the university and clinical practice, leading to improved EBP skills of all participants which will lead to an improved quality of healthcare.
